THE ROLE AND OPPORTUNITY

Join John Laing Group as a BI Analyst and play a pivotal role in enhancing our data-driven decision-making processes.

This pivotal role sits within the Data and Business Intelligence function reporting into the Head of Data and BI, supporting the delivery of the Business information vision. By evaluating, recommending, and enabling improvements to the company's Business Intelligence platform. Identifying the balanced technological solutions to process, transform, aggregate, and analyse business information to culminate in the creation of a golden data source (single version of the truth).

We are implementing a Corporate Information Platform to embrace modern BI tools (CPM, ETL, data warehouse/lake, Visualisation, and Insights) spanning all aspects of business operations and replace excel as the default tool.

The role will have three key aspects, Business Analyst, Developer and BAU system oversight.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Business Analyst:

  • Support the Head of Data and BI in evolving the Business Information framework, develop a comprehensive internal/external information suite, and maintain business interfaces including data integrations, dashboards, and reports.
  • ETL and Visualisation – enrichment and BAU integrity oversight. Exploiting transformation opportunities to integrate traditional and contemporary BI technologies within the wider organisation – Working alongside development partners to develop integrated solutions. Your key responsibilities would be:
  • Translating business requirements into technical specifications
  • Report curation and data modelling.
  • Documenting contents in a data warehouse and meta-data storage; and creating technical documentation for BI tools.

BI Developer:

ETL:

  • Part of the development team to implement a robust cross functional business information hub, spanning all aspects of business operations – joining, transforming, and cleansing data across core systems that spans all functions and regions.

Visualisation:

  • Assist in creating dashboards to improve financial oversight, generate insights, and support informed decision-making..

BAU system oversight:

  • Once in place this role will be responsible for the evolution of our data business information hub and visualisation solutions.
  • Working with the Head of IT and Cyber Security maintaining daily operations to ensure the integrity of data integrations via the ETL and the Data Warehouse

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • We are looking for a data analyst with a degree in computer science and advanced BI skills, including SQL, Power BI, and Alteryx. Experience with Snowflake and Python is a plus.
  • Minimum 2-3 years relevant experience
