Empowering Learning are currently working with a school in Beckenham, looking for a Teaching Assistant.

Responsibilities:* Work closely with students who experience emotional and behavioural difficulties, helping them to engage with lessons and maintain positive behaviour.* Provide one-to-one or small group support for students who may struggle with concentration, emotional regulation, and behaviour management.* Offer emotional support to help students cope with frustration, anger, anxiety, and other emotional challenges.* Monitor and assess students’ emotional and behavioural progress and report findings to the class teacher or SENCo (Special Educational Needs Coordinator).* Implement individualised behaviour management plans (BMPs) developed by the school or SENCo.* Use positive reinforcement strategies to encourage desired behaviours and help students build self-esteem and confidence.* Assist in creating a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment for all students.* De-escalate situations of conflict or aggression and ensure students remain calm and focused.* Support students with their academic tasks, ensuring they understand and complete work to the best of their ability.* Work closely with other professionals, such as psychologists, social workers, and SENCo, to provide a holistic approach to student care and support.* Help with the preparation of resources tailored to the students’ individual needs.* Develop strong, trusting relationships with students, enabling them to feel supported and valued.* Encourage positive social interactions and peer relationships in and outside the classroom.* Assist with transitions between activities, breaks, and lunchtime, ensuring students feel supported throughout the school day.* Encourage inclusive practices by helping students integrate into mainstream classes or social groups.* Support students in developing skills for independent living and socialising, ensuring they are prepared for further education or the next phase in their lives.
Requirements:* Experience working with children or young people with emotional, social, or behavioural challenges.* Knowledge of special educational needs (SEN), particularly emotional and behavioural difficulties.* Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.* Patience and empathy to support students through challenging behaviours and emotional struggles.* Ability to remain calm under pressure and de-escalate difficult situations.* Flexible and adaptable, able to support a wide range of needs and work within a team.* Team Teach Training or other behavioural management training (desirable).* A calm and patient demeanour to handle situations of conflict or stress.* Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think on your feet.* A passion for working with children with additional needs and a commitment to making a positive impact on their lives.* A collaborative approach to working with teachers, parents, and external professionals.
