James Adams is delighted to be supporting a prestigious public sector organisation in the search for an experienced Compliance Manager to join their Quality, Risk & Assurance team on an initial 3-month contract.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a high-performing compliance function and play a pivotal role in ensuring key regulatory, ethical, and corporate compliance obligations are effectively managed across a large, complex organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee multiple compliance risk areas, acting as a subject matter expert (SME) across topics including UK Bribery Act, Modern Slavery/Ethical Trade, Financial Crime, and Tax (without owning day-to-day operations).
  • Conduct second-line compliance monitoring and assurance across high-risk areas and produce concise reports with clear actions, owners, and deadlines.
  • Lead horizon scanning efforts, translating changes in legislation into business-ready guidance and supporting operational teams in implementation.
  • Support the delivery of the Group Modern Slavery Programme, including annual statement coordination and multi-year planning.
  • Write executive-level reports and board-ready documentation, presenting compliance risks, findings, and updates clearly to senior stakeholders.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to stakeholders across the business and promote a strong culture of ethics, personal accountability, and regulatory integrity.
  • Ideal Candidate Profile:

    • Strong experience managing corporate-level compliance frameworks, ideally in media, publishing, pharma, or other large non-FS environments.
    • Proven expertise in conducting second-line assurance and monitoring activities within high-risk regulatory domains.
    • ICA Certification (or equivalent) with deep practical knowledge of ethical trade, anti-bribery, tax evasion, and financial crime.
    • Excellent written communication skills, particularly in board-level reporting.
    • Confident interpreting complex regulations and communicating them in simple, actionable language.
    • Adept with stakeholder engagement at all levels, including senior leadership and cross-functional business units.

    Desirable Skills:

    • Experience with compliance technology tools or platforms
    • Interest in AI tools, data-driven compliance, and innovation in assurance
    • Project management capability (Prince2 or similar beneficial)

This is a fast-paced, high-impact interim role within a high-profile organisation where compliance, ethics, and governance are taken seriously. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to influence policy, strengthen controls, and support critical decision-making at the executive level.
