The Role

Join an established firm known for providing high-quality legal advice to both businesses and individuals. As they continue their expansion, they are looking for a skilled Costs Draftsperson / Solicitor to strengthen their team of costs experts. The team handles a broad range of matters, including both paying and receiving party costs, as well as budgeting.

The costs work within this role encompasses a broad range of personal injury cases, as well as various other areas of litigation undertaken by the firm. Given the high volume of work, there will be opportunities to gain experience across a diverse range of matters, with the possibility to specialise in specific areas based on your experience and the team’s needs.

The team provides expert advice on a wide and varied caseload. The majority of the work involves defending claims and litigation on behalf of insurers and policyholders, particularly in relation to personal injury claims of all types. Additionally, the team handles specialised work in areas such as commercial, property, marine, aviation, and professional indemnity claims.

You will be responsible for assessing and negotiating settlements for fast track, intermediate track, and multi-track costs, and managing the related costs proceedings. This will also involve drafting cost budgets for both own party and opposing third parties, as well as pursuing cost recoveries, including bill drafting.

The Candidate:

  • Proven experience as a Costs Draftsperson / Solicitor, managing your own caseload
  • Experience working on Personal Injury files
  • Strong grasp of costs law and the Civil Procedure Rules
  • Proficiency in preparing Points of Dispute and reviewing replies
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Strong legal acumen, attention to detail, and effective communication skills
