Are you a dynamic and strategic Design Director ready to take the lead in an innovative, fast-growing modular construction business? We’re working with a forward-thinking offsite construction company looking for a talented Design Director to head up their multi-disciplinary technical, design, planning, and engineering teams.
The Role of the Design Director
As Design Director, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the technical future of the business. You’ll lead cross-functional teams to deliver coordinated designs that meet project scopes, budgets and timelines. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will also contribute to corporate strategy and company-wide performance.
Responsibilities of the Design Director
- Leading and managing Technical, Design, Planning and Engineering functions.
- Driving design compliance, innovation and excellence from land acquisition through to site completion.
- Overseeing design risk management, statutory approvals and technical outputs.
- Acting as Principal Designer under CDM regulations.
- Championing best practice and continuous improvement across design and construction processes.
- Collaborating with internal directors, clients, suppliers and sub-contractors.
Skills/Experience of the Design Director
- Experience in residential, education and defence sectors.
- Proven leadership of technical/design teams in a construction or manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of MMC, light gauge steel frame and volumetric design principles.
- Understanding of Building Regs, CDM, NHBC, BOPAS, BREEAM, fire strategy, acoustics, M&E and SAP.
- Experienced in AutoCAD, Revit and Autodesk Construction Cloud (e.g., BIM 360, Autodesk Docs).
- Collaborative and strategic thinker with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Degree qualified or equivalent (HNC/HND considered).
- Chartered status (RIBA, MEng, RICS, etc.).

Hours
- Mon – Thursday 8.30am – 5.00pm.
- Fridays working from home – 8.30am – 1.00pm.
